Where creative literature meets digital technology to create immersive learning experiences

Motion Light Lab is an award-winning creative lab focused on creating an equitable world.

This video features Mavo— our curious adventurer! We are working on a crowdfunding campaign on Seed&Spark to bring “HERE COMES MAVO!” - animated signing episodes to children’s TV. Please support our campaign for this groundbreaking work. We want to bring signing characters to children worldwide— inspiring possibilities and to share teachable moments— through Mavo’s eyes.

LITERACY DEVELOPMENT FOR DEAF CHILDREN

Malzkuhn and the ML2 team developed the world's first interactive ASL-English bilingual storybook apps. The apps offer young visual learners unique and interactive reading experiences in ASL and English with animated illustrations that complement videos of ASL storyteller.

ADVANCING SIGN-CENTRIC LEARNING EXPERIENCES

ML2 aims to advance the design and development of fluent signing avatars through motion capture technology. As part of our ongoing inquiry into what makes learning fun, we are creating methods and ways to build immersive learning experiences.

TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DEAF CREATORS

We believe in the power of the community. By making our tools and resources available to the Deaf community, we are investing in our next-gen creators and encouraging more stories to be told. We offer training nationally and globally, and have partnered with multiple organizations.

CREST NETWORK - EQUITY IN SIGN LANGUAGE TECH

Cultivating Research & Equity in Sign-related Technology (CREST Network) is an NSF-funded collaborative network aiming to foster discussions and collaborations in sign-related technologies, including sign language recognition, signing avatars, sign translation, and signing in mixed reality (e.g., virtual or augmented realities).

Sign Language
is a Human Right.

With natural sign language exposure and acquisition, deaf children build the cognitive foundations for language learning that leads into literacy skills. With little exposure or no experience with sign language the consequences are harsh, with a lifelong impact in academia and mental health struggles. Only 3% deaf children, worldwide, receive education in sign language. We aim for a world where all deaf children get access to sign language from birth, with full language support for their families.

The Why

We approach everything with our shared values.
We love to create, we love to collaborate, we love to discover, we love to try, and we love creative energy.

SIGN LANGUAGE IS A HUMAN RIGHT

Every Deaf child should have access to sign language. End language deprivation.

DEAF REPRESENTATION IN DEVELOPMENT IS MANDATORY

Enough said.

CURIOSITY AND IDEAS DRIVE US
